Beck Involved in Double Suicide?

Beck Involved in Double Suicide?

I read this crazy story on the site for Philly radio station WMMR a few days ago.
Beck is implicated in a bizarre double suicide case that has made the pages of Vanity Fair and other outlets. New York artists and lovers Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake both committed suicide last July, with Blake taking his own life after learning of Duncan’s death. Duncan allegedly killed herself because she was despondent over Beck reneging on a promise to star in a film she planned to make called Alice Underground. Duncan blamed the Church of Scientology, to which Beck belongs, for the …read more

Odelay Going Deluxe

Odelay Going Deluxe

Beck will be reissuing his fantastic 1996 album Odelay on January 29.
The deluxe version of Odelay will be a double disc effort. It will feature 16 b-sides, including remixes, 2 unreleased tracks (“Inferno” and “Gold Chains”, produced by the Dust Brothers), and a Spanish version of “Jackasss” entitled “Burro”, which features a mariachi band.
Sounds sweet!
I’ll be picking this goody up.

Top Ten Artists/Bands at your holiday party

Top Ten Artists/Bands at your holiday party

I know, I didn’t join in on the fun yesterday; but better late than never.
10. Thom Yorke – Just seems like an interesting guy to hang out with; plus he can DJ.
9. Lisa Loeb – She’s so cute, there is no way I can have a party and not invite Lisa.
8. Flea – He would be that crazy guy that you have to invite because you never know what he’d get into.
7. The Gallagher Brothers – The bros behind Oasis are those knuckleheads that get invited to parties because you want to at first, not thinking, but as the party …read more

Weezer – The World Has Turned And Left Me Here

Weezer – The World Has Turned And Left Me Here

What a cool little ditty from Weezer’s 1994 self-titled debut, even though it’s kind of depressing.
Apparently, this song was written by Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson in late 1991/early 1992, before Weezer even existed. It also hasn’t been performed live by the band since 1997, which is a shame, because it’s a great tune.
Check out this live performance from 1995.

Rob Zombie’s PETA Message

Rob Zombie’s PETA Message

I think everyone should be informed about this; whether you’re a vegetarian or not.
So, click here, to hear the truth about Butterball from Rob Zombie. I’m sure it will make you think twice before eating that turkey today.

Nirvana – Unplugged In New York

Nirvana – Unplugged In New York

Today is the day that many of us have patiently waited for…the release of Nirvana Unplugged In New York on DVD.
Of course, more than a decade later it may seem a bit hard to remember why this was a classic performance; so let’s run down some reasons why.
Let’s begin with the hype leading up to the performance. See, none of us knew what the band was going to do. There were rumours flying everywhere that there was going to be special guests, which would include possibly some members from Pearl Jam. People speculated that Eddie Vedder would show up and …read more

Oh The Guilt

Oh The Guilt

Once again I refuse to socialize and am left out of another list by fellow b5er’s. But, I’m still gonna join the fun.
This time everyone thought it would be a great idea to open up and share their guilty pleasures. Check out what they had to list here.
So, here are my top ten guilty pleasures. Now I will seclude myself in a very dark room to hide from the shame.
10. Matthew Sweet – “Girlfriend”: I actually like Matthew Sweet, but this is pop rock at it’s best. You can’t help but feel a little silly when rocking out to this.
9. Jewel …read more

Bright Eyes @ The Grand Opera House

Bright Eyes @ The Grand Opera House

This past Monday, November 12, I checked out Bright Eyes at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE.
It was a pretty awesome show. The Grand Opera House is just a splendid venue. I would love to catch another show there in the future.
The main man in the band, Conor Oberst, kept reminding the crowd that this was the band’s first time in Delaware and that if they played Hawaii, then they would have played all fifty states in this “beautiful, but sick country”.
If you ever have a chance to check out Bright Eyes you should. The band sounded great live …read more

In Rainbows U.S Release Date and Label Announced

In Rainbows U.S Release Date and Label Announced

I just read on NME, that the release date for Radiohead’s In Rainbows will be on New Year’s Day here in the States. Last week it was announced that the album’s physical release date would be on December 31, which I assume now meant that was just the international date.
I guess some of us will now have to shack off that hangover and make a trip to the record store on 1/1/08.
As expected the band will be releasing the album through Dave Matthews’ label ATO. “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” is already rumored to be the first single and “Bodysnatchers” is …read more

Kurt Cobain Film Gets The Music of Nirvana

Kurt Cobain Film Gets The Music of Nirvana

This makes sense, right?
I mean how can you have a film about a musician and not have their music in the film?
Anyways, Universal Studios has purchased the rights to the Charles Cross biography “Heavier Than Heaven” (which is a really good read) and the rights to Nirvana’s music. Of course Courtney Love is involved in this deal and she is also apparently going to be executive producer of the flick.
I have mixed feelings on this film. If they’re done right, these biopics can be really good, like Ray or Walk The Line; and Nirvana was the band that got me …read more
