‘Juno’ Soundtrack Tops Charts

‘Juno’ Soundtrack Tops Charts

Hard to imagine that a little soundtrack from a little movie would top Alicia Keys and take over the numero uno spot on the Billboard album charts.
The fantastic soundtrack, I should again mention the movie is fantastic as well, features some killer tracks which include Sonic Youth’s cover of The Carpenters “Superstar”, Cat Power’s cover of “Sea of Love” and a slew of tracks from the backbone of the soundtrack Kimya Dawson.
In related news, the soundtrack is also going to have a vinyl release on February 18, for the suggested price of $13.98!
Wow, I can’t wait to snag that up.
See what all the …read more

Jane’s Addiction Reunion?

Jane’s Addiction Reunion?

Looks like there could be another band joining in on the reunion fun.
Right after rumours of a Stone Temple Pilots reunion started popping up, Dave Navarro threw in the possibility of a Jane’s Addiction reunion.
Navarro stated that “My love for the music outweighs any old baggage that might have been. “As I have said in the past… If Van Halen and The Eagles can get over their issues, I don’t see why we can’t. “I just think that if something like that ever happened, it should be shows only, with no new label, management, photo shoots, press and all that crap …read more

Why I Don’t Like Anthony Kiedis

Why I Don’t Like Anthony Kiedis

Disclaimer: Before people jump to conclusions, I just want to say that I like the Chili Peppers. They were the first band that I saw live, and they have sick musicians in the band. However, I just don’t care for Anthony Kiedis, I don’t loathe him or anything, I just think he’s not all that great…as an artist or person.
4. He’s not that great of a singer. Ok, his voice is way more listenable then to someone like Billy Corgan and it’s not awful; but compared to many other singers, Kiedis is kind of weak. I believe that most of …read more

Robert Plant dislikes Radiohead, RHCP

Robert Plant dislikes Radiohead, RHCP

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant gave his opinion on Radiohead and the Red Hot Chili Peppers while out drinking with a lady friend in London this past weekend.
While at a pub Plant apparently demanded that the music on the jukebox be changed, because it wasn’t to his liking. From there it seems that Plant went on a bit of a tangent. He labeled Radiohead as “rhyming crap” and compared the Chili Peppers music to nursery rhymes.
I don’t know why, but these stories always amuse me. I get a kick out of musicians bashing each other. It’s just silly.
But, I don’t get why he …read more

It looks like the members of Sonic Youth are going to have a busy year. Here’s what’s going down…

Thurston Moore will be lending his musical talents for a porn flick by writing the score. The Jesus and Mary Chain Post Demos

The Jesus and Mary Chain Post Demos

The recently reformed Jesus and Mary Chain have posted three rough demos on their MySpace page. The tracks, “War on Peace”, “Cookies” and “Boiling Over”, are the first tracks made public by the band since 1998’s Munki.
“War on Peace” is pretty good, nice and mellow, but I’m not crazy about “Cookies”. “Boiling Over” could have some potential, but it’s still too rough right now.
The band will be performing a two night stand at the Roundhouse in London on March 11 and 12.

Trent Reznor “disheartened” by current state of music industry

Trent Reznor “disheartened” by current state of music industry

I saw on NME this morning that the Nine Inch Nails mastermind isn’t too happy right now with the state of the music industry.
Reznor posted his feelings on Nine Inch Nails website after discovering the sales figures for rapper Saul Williams new album, which Reznor produced.
Following a similar method that Radiohead used for In Rainbows, Williams’ latest album was offered online and gave fans two choices. The first choice was to download the album for free or the second choice of paying $5 for a better quality version.
Reznor stated that “As of 1/2/08, 154,449 people chose to download Saul’s new …read more

The Biggest Disappointments of 2007

The Biggest Disappointments of 2007

2007 was a pretty decent year for 90’s alternative bands, but with the good comes the bad. So, here are the five biggest disappointments of 2007.
5. Chris Cornell – Carry On. I love pretty much anything that Chris Cornell does, minus the last two Audioslave albums, so I was thrilled when I heard that he was releasing his second solo album. Euphoria Morning is still one of my all time favorite albums, so my expectations were high. Carry On does have a handful of decent tracks, like “Arms Around Your Arm” and “Killing Birds”, but as whole it just didn’t …read more

Top 7 Albums of 2007

Top 7 Albums of 2007

Hopefully you got some cash or gift cards over the holidays that are burning a hole in your pocket. So, here are the top seven albums from this year that you need to pick up from 90’s alternative bands, if you haven’t done so yet.
7. Velvet Revolver – Libertad: Ok, VR isn’t exactly a band from the 90’s, but their members were around then and that’s good enough for me. Libertad had some hype behind it (which makes sense since this is a supergroup) and it actually delivered. VR proved with this album that they’re actually their own band, and not just Scott …read more

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Here’s one last Christmas song for everyone to enjoy.
This version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” was recorded live last year by former STP and current Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland on the Tonight Show.
You can pretty much just say “Wow” after listening to it. It’s good stuff.
Happy Holidays everyone.
