The tour kicks off August 3 with the already mentioned Lollapalooza appearance and will wrap up August 28 at Santa Barbara’s Santa Barbara Bowl.

Other worth mentioning dates include stops at the All Points West Festival at Liberty State Park, Jersey on August 8-9, as well as the Outside Lands Festival in San Fran on August 22.

A final worthy date is the band’s August 12 stop at Camden, NJ (because that’s my birthday). What a great and early present!

The band will kick off their 2008 tour on Cinco de Mayo in West Palm Beach, FL and will hit the southern east coast of the U.S. before heading back to Europe in June and July.

Radiohead will not just be doing one night, but two nights at the festival, which is being sponsored by the folks behind Coachella. Joining Radiohead will be fellow headliner Jack Johnson, as well as Kings of Leon, The Roots, Cat Power and a bunch more.

The festival will take place on August 8-10 and tickets go on sale February 29, which will cost you $89 for a single day ticket and $258 for a three day pass.

If you didn’t know anything about this free show, well here’s what happened…

The band announced a free show yesterday morning, which would obviously cause chaos. The performance was scheduled to take place at the Rough Trade East shop in London, but was switched to the 93 Feet East venue over safety concerns. However, once the band took the stage everything seemed to move on rather smoothly, despite a couple of mistakes during the performance.

The band played their latest album In Rainbows in it’s entirety and followed that with an encore consisting of “Up On The Ladder” (Thom solo), “You And Whose Army?”, “The National Anthem”, “My Iron Lung” and “The Bends”.

From what I’ve seen so far, it was a great performance, I can’t wait until they tour.

Also, how cool is that of them to do a free show?

The band intends to play the North American dates prior to their UK tour in June, so I would suspect that the North American tour would take place around this April/May. The band is also apparently going to come back to North America following their European tour this year.

Don’t know about everyone else, but I can’t wait to see these guys!

In related news, Radiohead have captured the number one album position on the Billboard 200 with In Rainbows. The album sold 122,000 copies in the U.S., which is a huge drop from the 300,000 copies that 2003’s Hail to the Thief sold.

However, as many of us already know, that In Rainbows was available for download in October and it’s physical release faced premature release. So, I’m pretty impressed by these first week numbers.

The physical release of In Rainbows has sold around 50,000 copies in it’s first week of sales in the UK since it’s release on December 31.

Which is probably good news for the record industry, because it shows that people will still buy CD’s; even if the album was basically given away months in advance.

My theory is that A) people will always buy music if the material is good, and B) if a band gives something away, they’ll get much more back from the fans, since it shows that they’re not in it for money.

In related news, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke stated that In Rainbows is the band’s classic album. He compared In Rainbows to other classic albums, such as The Beatles Revolver, Lou Reed’s Transformer and David Bowie’s Honky Dory.

Yorke also added that Radiohead deliberately made the album 45 minutes long because “our aim was to describe in 45 minutes, as coherently and conclusively as possible, what moves us.”

Although exact dates and venues have not been listed yet, the cities have been. As of now, the band will kick off their European tour in Dublin in early June and will wrap up in Berlin sometime in July.

The festivals will take place on June 20-22 in Germany; which should have a decent line up. Last the festivals had Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, Bright Eyes, Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age and many, many more.

Yorke went on to say that “There wasn’t any point,” and “I just move some money from one pocket to the other.” Guitarist Ed O’Brien added that the band was so secretive about the release of In Rainbows that he didn’t even tell his wife.

Yorke also stated “Every record that we’ve done for ages has been leaked. Why not leak the bloody thing yourself?”.

In the same interview, Ed O’Brien stated that the band may kick off their world tour in the States. He also went on to praise Kings of Leon saying “I don’t get jealous when I see other bands but when I see them I think “Man I’d love to be in that band”. They’re young…they remind me of… the Bunnymen or something like that. They’re growing, they’re evolving… They’re amazing players, the drummer, he’s amazing. They’re all great but he’s really special.”
