U2 Strikes Deal With Live Nation

Any concert goer is well aware of Live Nation, and all of their monopolistic fees and surcharges. Now, it looks like they’re branching out to perhaps take over the entire music industry.

It started with Madonna, which is not a surprise to me, who signed an astounding contract with the concert behemoth for $120 million, which would combine all of her music ventures, such as concerts, albums, merchandising, etc.

Now, U2 has followed in her footsteps.

The Irish heavyweights have inked a 12 year deal with Live Nation that will cover the band’s touring, merchandising, digital and branding rights. However, the band will still apparently release albums through Universal, but I can see that coming to an end.

Will this giant ever slayed?

Anyways, this is why I sometimes I have a problem with U2. I know they do a lot of great things, but then they constantly sell out. I know that has little to do with their music, but I think it gets in the way when you have a band that is so vocal about pretty much saving the world.
