Snakes, Wolves, & Tears: Danzig II: Lucifuge

Snakes, Wolves, & Tears: Danzig II: Lucifuge

Okay, so I grew up on a steady diet of punk rock, one band in particular being The Misfits. If you’re not aware of them, then you’ve probably been living in a cave or have never met a studded-belt-wearing punk rock kid in your life.
The band is known for their fast & raw punk rock sound, and of course their famous lyrics about b-movie horror. They even have a signature character ripped from an old serial known as “The Crimson Ghost”.
The band’s lead singer Glenn Danzig would go on to front other bands such as “Samhain” before sticking with …read more

What You Missed By Not Listening to Days of the New

What You Missed By Not Listening to Days of the New

So everyone knows about Days of the New, right?

Oh, forget all of a sudden?
They ruled the airwaves back in ‘97 with singles like “Touch, Peel, and Stand“, “Shelf In the Room“, and the cooler single “The Downtown“.
Sing along with me.
Bring me down, bring me dow-wown–yeah–ah, bring me dow-wown;
What probably NObody knows is that this band is more than meets the eye. Nobody realizes that the band is really one man.

Now listen – the band is not one man.
Rather, it’s one man’s band.
Watch the third youtube vid. The one where he actually plays his guitar.

Ciao…

Ciao…

Well, I’m heading off to Italy in a few hours, so I’m afraid that I won’t be around to entertain everyone out there.
However, I’ll be leaving you in excellent hands for the next two weeks. My friend Eric, who I’ve known for years and who also runs Evolvor Music Marketing, will be looking over this site. He’s another 90’s junkie, so I’m sure he’s got lots of goodies for you in store.
For now enjoy some videos of Pearl Jam in Italy. Ciao!

FYI: Silverchair

FYI: Silverchair

Let’s do an FYI on the Australian trio, since last year was a pretty good year for them, and their last two albums, Diorama and Young Modern, are great.

Singer/guitarist Daniel Johns and drummer Ben Gillies have been playing music together since primary school; bassist Chris Joannou joined the band in the high school.
The band’s original name was Innocent Criminals.
In 1994 they won a national demo competition with the song ”Tomorrow”.
“Tomorrow” spent 6 weeks at the top spot in Australian charts by August of 1994; in 1995 it was the most played modern rock song in the U.S.
The band recorded their debut album, …read more

Better Than The Original…

Better Than The Original…

This is a post that I’ve been toying with for some time now, but have finally decided that it was time to share some of my favorite cover tunes from 90’s alternative bands.
Actually, this can be a real touchy subject if your a fan of the original artist or song, but I think my choices are pretty good, and some could even argue that they could even be better than the original.
Stone Temple Pilots – “Dancing Days”: STP contributed their version of this song for the Zeppelin tribute album Encomium, which was pretty much a lackluster album. Honestly, this is …read more

Soundgarden – Let Me Drown

Soundgarden – Let Me Drown

This is a great opening track from 1994’s blockbuster of an album Superunknown.
Gritty lyrics, sick guitar solos and Matt Cameron holding it down with his drumming skills, “Let Me Drown” is your classic Soundgarden tune, and one of my favorites byt them.
Recently, Cornell has been using it as the opening number during his concerts, while it’s not exactly the same, it still kicked you in the face.
Here are the lyrics:
Stretch the bones over my skin
Stretch the skin over my head
Im going to the holy land
Stretch the marks over my eyes
Burn the candles deep inside
Yeah you know where Im coming from
Give …read more

Foo Fighters Already Working On New Music

Foo Fighters Already Working On New Music

Foos bassist Nate Mendel informed Billboard that the band is working on some new material during their current tour.
Mendel stated that the band are using time during their sound-checks to mess around with the new tunes, which could be lead to the follow up to last year’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace…which I still say is their best album yet.
However, Mendel didn’t get our hopes up too much, because he also said that he doesn’t know when the band will hit the studio. After-all, the Foos will be on the road for pretty much the rest of this year and they will obviously …read more

Fiona Apple – Tidal

Fiona Apple – Tidal

Back in 1996 a seemingly sweet girl popped up into the music world. However, she quickly established that she was anything but sweet.
I would have to say that Fiona Apple’s debut album Tidal was an unexpected way in giving women a new voice. It was anything but the classic “I am woman, hear my roar”, instead it was dirty and giving guys a taste of their own medicine.
The opening track, “Sleep To Dream”, is a fine example of this, as well as her breakthrough hit “Criminal” and “Shadowboxer”.
There are also gems on Tidal show that Fiona isn’t all bad, like the …read more
