In Rainbows U.S Release Date and Label Announced

In Rainbows U.S Release Date and Label Announced

I just read on NME, that the release date for Radiohead’s In Rainbows will be on New Year’s Day here in the States. Last week it was announced that the album’s physical release date would be on December 31, which I assume now meant that was just the international date.
I guess some of us will now have to shack off that hangover and make a trip to the record store on 1/1/08.
As expected the band will be releasing the album through Dave Matthews’ label ATO. “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” is already rumored to be the first single and “Bodysnatchers” is …read more

There will be a handful of birthday tribute concerts for Jeff Buckley this week.
One of the bigger tribute shows will take place in L.A. at the Key Club on November 15. The show will be hosted by Jack Osbourne (I have no clue why though, ugh) and will feature over 30 acts!
Other cities hosting tribute shows for Jeff Buckley include Chicago, Paris and Austin.
For more info on all the shows going on check out jeffbuckley.com.

FYI: Oasis

FYI: Oasis

Let’s celebrate the release of Lord Don’t Slow Me Down with an FYI on the feuding brothers Gallagher and their band Oasis.

The band was formed by schoolmates Liam Gallagher, Paul (Bonehead) Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass and Tony McCaroll on drums.
Noel Gallagher joined the band after being a guitar roadie for the Inspriral Carpets.
The band apparently cornered the co-owner of Creation Records, Alan McGee, and forced him to listen to their demo; which worked and the band was signed.
“Supersonic” was the band’s first single, released in the spring of 1994.
The band’s third single, “Live Forever”, would hit #10 …read more

Kurt Cobain Film Gets The Music of Nirvana

Kurt Cobain Film Gets The Music of Nirvana

This makes sense, right?
I mean how can you have a film about a musician and not have their music in the film?
Anyways, Universal Studios has purchased the rights to the Charles Cross biography “Heavier Than Heaven” (which is a really good read) and the rights to Nirvana’s music. Of course Courtney Love is involved in this deal and she is also apparently going to be executive producer of the flick.
I have mixed feelings on this film. If they’re done right, these biopics can be really good, like Ray or Walk The Line; and Nirvana was the band that got me …read more

In Rainbows To Be Released This Year

In Rainbows To Be Released This Year

Radiohead will be releasing In Rainbows on cd and vinyl on December 31. The band will also release “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” as a single on January 14.
The band recently inked a deal with XL Recordings, a British indie label, to release In Rainbows internationally. It is heavily rumoured that the Dave Matthews founded ATO Records will release the album here in the States.
In related news, ComScore, an Internet tracking firm, reported that 62% of people who downloaded In Rainbows paid nothing for it. The band has stated that this is inaccurate and they will release sales figures by the …read more

Soul Asylum – Somebody To Shove

Soul Asylum – Somebody To Shove

What a great opening track from 1992’s Grave Dancers Union.
Why is this song so awesome, just listen to the opening guitar riff and read these lyrics:
Grandfather watches the grandfather clock
And the phone hasn’t rang for so long
And the time flys by, like a vulture in the sky
Suddenly he breaks into song
I’m waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I’m not alone
Hello, speak up, is there somebody there?
These hang ups are getting me down
In a world frozen over with over exposure
Let’s talk it over, let’s go out and paint the town
Cause I’m waiting by the …read more

Oasis – Lord Don’t Slow Me Down

Oasis – Lord Don’t Slow Me Down

The brothers Gallagher are giving fans a unique look at Oasis on the road.
Lord Don’t Slow Me Down follows the band during their 2005 Don’t Believe The Truth. Fans get to see Oasis in a new light, by seeing what they do between shows. The footage looks like a home movie, which it gives it a more intimate vibe.
If that wasn’t enough, Lord Don’t Slow Me Downalso comes with a second disc. The second disc contains a performance from the band’s July 2, 2005 show at Manchester. Here’s the set list:

Fuckin’ In The Bushes
Turn Up The Sun
Lyla
Cigarettes & Alcohol
The Importance …read more

Stuck on a Island

Stuck on a Island

This past Monday several of the music bloggers here posted a Top 10 albums to take with you on a deserted island list. Well, I wasn’t really up to speed with everyone else, but just for fun, I decided to make my own list.
To make this task easier I’ve set a few guidelines for myself, which include: I am picking albums from only the 1990’s and from artists that are in the “alternative” category. This makes sense since that’s what my blog is about!
Ok, enough jibber jabber and on with the list.
