Rivers Cuomo – Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo

Rivers Cuomo – Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo just released Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo today.
Basically, this is 18 track compilation of demos by Cuomo from 1992 to like 2005. Most of the material is taken from Weezer’s early days, outtakes/demos from The Blue Album and Pinkerton; which is very good, because Pinkerton is hand’s down Weezer’s best album. Also from around this time are tracks taken from the space-themed concept album, Songs from the Black Hole, which was supposed to follow Weezer’s debut album.
Other tracks worth mentioning are a demo of “Buddy Holly” and a cover of Ice Cube’s “The Bomb”.
The compilation gets stale towards …read more

Top Ten Artists/Bands at your holiday party

Top Ten Artists/Bands at your holiday party

I know, I didn’t join in on the fun yesterday; but better late than never.
10. Thom Yorke – Just seems like an interesting guy to hang out with; plus he can DJ.
9. Lisa Loeb – She’s so cute, there is no way I can have a party and not invite Lisa.
8. Flea – He would be that crazy guy that you have to invite because you never know what he’d get into.
7. The Gallagher Brothers – The bros behind Oasis are those knuckleheads that get invited to parties because you want to at first, not thinking, but as the party …read more

Chris Cornell – Ave Maria

Chris Cornell – Ave Maria

Cornell recorded this wonderful rendition of the classical tune for 1997’s A Very Special Christmas 3.
Cornell teamed up with the band Eleven to record “Ave Maria”; he would also work with them for his debut solo album Euphoria Morning. This was a smart move to record “Ave Maria” with Eleven, because the duet between Cornell and Natasha Shneider is freaking awesome.
So, sit back and enjoy some Christmas tunes..90’s style.

Eddie Vedder Gets Golden Globe Nominations

Eddie Vedder Gets Golden Globe Nominations

My man Eddie Vedder keeps getting more and more recognition for his spectacular work on the Into The Wild soundtrack.
The Pearl Jam frontman snagged a Golden Globe nomination for “Guaranteed” in the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture category; “Guaranteed” also received a Grammy nomination in the same category.
Vedder also received a nomination for his work in the Best Original Score in a Motion Picture category with Michael Brook and Kaki King.
Besides the Grammy and Golden Globe nominations, “Guaranteed” also received a Best Song nomination from the Critics’ Choice Awards.
All this buzz is probably going to help Eddie Vedder …read more

More Eddie Vedder Solo Tracks Coming Soon

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is one busy guy.
I’ve mentioned his fantastic work on the Into The Wild soundtrack and he  also contributed two tracks for the documentary Body of War.
Now Vedder will be teaming up with John Legend to record music for the upcoming Howard Zinn documentary The People Speak…
Vedder is no stranger to contributing music for Zinn. The Pearl Jam song “Down” (which was an outtake from Riot Act) was used in film version of the Zinn autobiography You Can’t Be Neutral On A Moving Train. The lyrics for “Down” were obviously influenced by Zinn as well.
Anyways, this should …read more

Matthew Sweet – Sick of Myself

Matthew Sweet – Sick of Myself

What a great track from 1995’s 100% Fun.
It’s classic 90’s. You know, being just a tad self-deprecating, but we’ve all been there before.
Seriously, this one of my favorite songs ever.

Rage/Foo Fighters To Headline Pinkpop

I just read that Rage Against The Machine and the Foo Fighters will be headlining this year’s Pinkpop Festival in Holland.
The legendary festival will take place on May 30-31 and June 1.
You lucky Europeans getting another killer festival.
Until then, the reunited Rage Against The Machine will be hitting the road down under at the Big Day Out Festival; while the Foo Fighters are currently out promoting their fantastic new album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell Up For Grammys

Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell Up For Grammys

I forgot to mention last week that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and former Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell are nominated for a Grammy.
What makes this even better is that friends/collaborators are pitted against each other in the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media category.
Vedder’s “Guaranteed”, from Into The Wild, and Cornell’s “You Know My Name”, from Casino Royale, are the nominated tracks.
Honestly, I hope Vedder wins. I know I’m bias towards anything that anyone from Pearl Jam does, but Vedder’s music from Into The Wild is a wonderful piece of work. I’m glad that he’s …read more
