FYI: Eddie Vedder

FYI: Eddie Vedder

The Pearl Jam frontman is rather busy this fall. He just performed at the Toronto International Film Festival, his solo soundtrack for Into The Wild comes out Tuesday and he’ll be at the Bridge School Benefit in October.
Eddie’s birth name is Edward Louis Severson III and is originally from Evanston, IL.
At age 7, Eddie appeared in a Chuckles candy ad. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.
During the 70’s and 80’s, Eddie moved back and forth from Chicago and San Diego.
By the mid 80’s Vedder began recording demos and became involved in the San Diego Music scene.
Eddie was in a band …read more

Faith No More – Falling To Pieces

Faith No More – Falling To Pieces

This was the second single from 1991’s The Real Thing, which was Mike Patton’s debut with Faith No More.
The bass line is killer on this song, which is probably the first thing that stands out. After that, Mike Patton does some great vocal work and Puffy adds depth with some fantastic drumming. The song is pretty much about a person being in a crummy situation and can’t get out of it. It’s perfect to listen to when you’re having one of those days.
Besides being on The Real Thing, “Falling To Pieces” can also be heard in the 2001 flick Black …read more

Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger

Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger

Soundgarden’s ear shattering and breakthrough album is a hard album to ignore.
Released on October 8, 1991 the Seattle powerhouse that is Soundgarden delivered a classic album. The fact that the album opens up with “Rusty Cage”, followed by “Outshined”, “Slaves & Bulldozers” and “Jesus Christ Pose” should be proof enough.
But, Badmotorfinger also contains other Soundgarden gems like “Room a Thousand Years Wide”. “Searching with My Good Eye Closed”, “Drawing Flies” and closing with “New Damage”, which makes this a great album. It’s often considered Soundgarden’s best album and is a fan favorite.
While many people probably have Superunknown and Down …read more

Back to School List

Back to School List

I’m a sucker for themes, so let’s stick with the back to school thing.
I decided to change up this week’s Song of the Week to Songs of the Week. Ok, how about a list of back to school songs, 90’s style.
Nirvana – “School”: This is from their 1989 debut, Bleach. I still love the simple lyrics and Kurt screaming “no recess”.
Class of ‘99 – “Another Brick in the Wall”: This was a brief supergroup consisting of Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction) and Matryn LeNoble (Porno For Pyros) for the …read more

Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks

Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks

It’s that time of year when the dreaded school year begins, but who said it can’t be fun?
I’m sure that many of us at some point saw a Schoolhouse Rock short, whether you were around in the 70’s or not. But, if you had never heard of Schoolhouse Rock, you certainly had to in 1996 when a tribute album was released.
The 15 track album featured covers of classic Schoolhouse Rock songs done by contemporary artists.
Some of the standout tracks were “Three Is A Magic Number” by Blind Melon, “Conjunction, Junction” by Better Than Ezra, “My Hero, Zero” by The …read more

Labor Day…

Labor Day…

Hope all the hard working people are enjoying this long weekend. It’s hard to believe that the summer has come to an end. But there’s no need to be sad, cause I’m looking forward to the fall and all the cool things going on.
For now, enjoy some music to celebrate all the hard working people that deserve a round of applause.
