Foo Fighters – The Colour and the Shape (10th Anniversary Edition)

Most 90’s, or rock fans in general, probably own The Foo Fighters 1997 classic The Colour and the Shape. But now you’re probably going to buy a second copy with the release of the 10th anniversary edition.

The Colour and and the Shape is considered the band’s best album and it’s hard to disprove them. The first Foo Fighters album as a band (Dave Grohl did everything on the debut) unleashed the hits “Everlong”,”My Hero”, “Monkey Wrench” and “Walking After You”. “Everlong” has become a classic, and is still a fan favorite as a concert closer, not to mention the video is just as good. “My Hero” has become an anthem for any worthy situation, just like this past weekend’s Live Earth concert. The Colour and the Shape also contains some of my favorite all time Foo songs that include the opener “Doll”, the fantastic “Hey, Johnny Park!” and the sweet “Up In Arms”.

So, what exactly does the 10th anniversary edition offer? Well, it features 6 bonus tracks that were scattered throughout singles and soundtracks. Finally, they are neatly placed together in one awesome digipack. The bonus tracks are mainly covers that include “Baker Street” (Gerry Rafferty), “Drive Me Wild” (Vanity 6), “Down in the Park” (Gary Numan), and “Requiem” (Killing Joke). The final 2 tracks are the Foo Fighters originals “Dear Lover” and “The Colour and the Shape”. Some of you have probably already head their great renditions of “Baker Street” and “Down in the Park”, and they are worth the price alone.

Personally I’m excited about this release and finally owning these bonus tracks, so I won’t mind buying a new copy of the already great The Colour and the Shape.

What an album…and what a band.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for this band because they truly respect and appreciate music. Rock n roll to acoustic…they are successful at it all because they embrace the challenges, the passion and the quest for a good song.

    What a band.

I agree 100%. Dave Grohl is just an amazing musician, he does it all. Their also one of those bands that can be fun and intense at the same time. They put on a great show too!

I also love the Foo Fighters! I saw them a couple years back at Summerfest in Milwaukee, which is the world’s largest music festival. They were playing on the main stage one of the eleven days of the festival, and they were just amazing. Dave Grohl is extremely talented, very smart, and talk about ambitious. He’s in a band that falls apart because of a death and he decides that he’s good enough to keep going! Over ten years and the band is still going strong. Thanks for writing about the Foo Fighters, I enjoyed it a lot!
